FG deploys warships, gunboats, fighter jets to N-Delta as NDA warns of bloodier attacks

The federal government, yesterday, deployed an armada of five warships, 100 gunboats and fighter jets to the creeks of the Niger Delta, in response to the continued bombing of oil and gas pipelines by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).



This heightened tension in the coastal communities of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, even as helicopter gunships were seen hovering at low altitudes in the predominantly riverine area.  It was gathered that while the Airforce deployed the fighter jets and helicopter gunships, the Army swooped on four more Ijaw communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, in search of the militants.

This came after the NDA had issued a warning to oil companies working in the region at the weekend that its campaign is about to get bloody, UPI reports. The military said it had led a successful campaign against the group during the weekend. But in response, the group said it was not engaged in combat with the Nigerian army and that no arrests were made.
