Amodu was warned against fasting – Cousin Speaks up

Late ex-Super Eagles Coach, Amodu Shuaibu, who died yesterday morning, was warned by his doctor against continuing with his Ramadan fast because of his high blood pressure (BP), a family member has disclosed.
The deceased's cousin and the Commissioner of Information in Edo State, Kazeem Afegbua, told the AUTHORITY on Sunday that Amodu, who was until his death the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), died in his sleep about 4am on Saturday.

Afegbua recalled that Amodu led prayers before the family went to bed the night before and only complained of chest pain but was attended to by the doctor who was said to have certified him okay before bedtime.
According to Afegbua: "He was actually a BP patient and his BP last night when the doctor checked was 140/100. The doctor only warned him to stop fasting.
"After the prayers, he went to bed but asked that he be awakened at 4am the following morning to prepare for the fast.
"It was around 4am that they tried to wake him to prepare for the Muslim fasting. That was all. He didn't wake up."
Meanwhile, Amodu's death which came only days after that of another ex-Super Eagles Coach, Stephem Keshi, has been described as mysterious by the former Coach of the Golden Eaglets, Godwin Izilein.
Izilein who said he was with Amodu until at about 9pm on Friday, disclosed that they had scheduled a meeting by 10 amon Saturday after doing a lot of running around together but noted that he never complained of any ailment.
The former Eaglets coach added that Amodu was hale and hearty throughout Friday but was shocked to have received a call from his brother of his sudden demise.
Izilein who could not hold back his tears said, "I don't just know what is happening anymore. We were together last night and he complained of nothing. He was hail and healthy.
"He only said he was hungry and I told him to go home to eat while I go home. It was then we agreed to meet again this morning with the driver I got him.
"I was awakened this morning (Saturday) with a call from his brother that they don't know what is happening to Amodu.
"I rushed to Central Hospital and searched all the wards but find him nowhere only for me to be told his lifeless body was in the morgue of Stella Obasanjo hospital.
