Name the looters now, and shame the poor

The global coalition against corruption, Transpar­ency International, describes Corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain, be it grand, petty and political, depending on the amounts of money lost and the sector where it occurs.
I took that from them but never swallowed all the data the global agency dishes out because sometimes , I feel bad with its representa­tion of my country Nige­ria when I am resident and have seen the true picture of what they were narrating.

My grouse is based on the name because transparency simply means shedding light on shady deals, weak enforce­ment of rules and other il­licit practices that undermine good governments, ethical businesses and society at large. There is no need to be selective and biased in judg­ment when third world coun­tries and developing nations are involved. It pisses me off.
But that does not mean, the efforts of the world body are in vain. They are at least keeping corrupt minded minds in check and on their guards. Corruption is evil and corrodes the fabrics of the society. It does not stop there but goes ahead to un­dermine people’s trust in po­litical and economic systems, institutions and leaders.
There should be no toler­ance to corruption; rather there should be strong actions and super collaborations against corruption and cor­rupt people. Our problem in Africa particularly Nigeria is undermining our institutions when we or our relatives are involved. We have weak in­stitutions and strong person­alities. That is not supposed to be. If there are strong in­stitutions, there would be no corruption or at worst case scenario, there would no cor­ruption or at worst case sce­nario, there would be mini­mal corruption as it would not be eradicated completely.
Civil society organization (CSOs) with focus on pro­moting good governance and fighting corruption in Nigeria often pursue shadows and say things unimaginable because either they are induced or their person is involved. Once there are caveats infighting corruption as well as insin­cerity of purpose, corruption would continue to drag the economy down and its citi­zens suffer the more as Nige­ria is currently experiencing.
I advocate for a clear cut vision and mission for our civil society groups and Hu­man Rights Groups as well as other Non Governmen­tal Organizations (NGO’s) on issues of corruption and spare nobody at all times in the healing process of mak­ing Nigeria a corrupt free nation with its citizens seen to be free from corruption.
And when citizens of Ni­geria are seen to be free from corruption; honesty, trans­parency, accountability, in­tegrity and inclusion will be upheld. The numerous un­necessary and unprovoked tantrums from our leadership have never helped to bind us together but have contin­ued to divide us as a country. Only peace, unity of purpose and sincerity of leadership devoid of ethnicity and reli­gious colourations would be needed to improve the stan­dard of living of the people.
That lack of divisive spirit and intolerance from our leaders and civil society and human rights watch groups which would on the led would promote anti-corruption and good governance initiatives in Nigeria. And to sustain it, capacity-building, research and advocacy interventions for key stakeholders would perfect the stance and Ni­geria would be greater for it.
In China of all the criminal cases, those involving corrupt officials sentenced to death arouse the greatest interest. The number of corrupt public officials sentenced to death in China is alarming but go to China and see the wonders it has turned to its economy.
In May, 2011, two dep­uty mayors of Suzhou and Hangzhou were sentenced to death and the executions of the head of the State Food and Drug Administration, of the Secretary of Justice of Chongqing City, and of the vice chairman of the Stand­ing Committee of the Na­tional People’s Congress.
By January 7th, this year alone Saudi Arabia had be­headed over 47 people for various corrupt offences that Belgium refused to sell more arms to them.
The country execut ed 150 people in a single year as reported March, 2015.
We hear of Pakistan and so many other countries and were told of alarming sto­ries about Ghana under Ex President Jerry Rawlings but it brought sanity to Ghana though things are reportedly falling apart again. Let me not bore you with this wrong practice so to speak despite its potency in some climes, Ni­geria is a signatory to all pro­tocols on Human Rights and should not champion its an­nihilation but the best option for us now is to name the loot­ers of our collective treasury.
Me thinks and probably that may be the thinking of many Nigerians that not only the people hunted and judged by the media daily are the only thieves and corrupt people in Nigeria. They suspect and even some think that major­ity of corrupt people reside within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Mr Pres­ident Muhammadu Buhari is cowed to look the other way.
So much noise about trea­sury looting and yet no names were attached to the looters for the poor masses to at least have something to hold for their integrity and upright­ness for all these suffering years. If our anti corruption agencies including Economic and Financial Crimes Com­mission (EFCC) , Depart­ment of State Security, Inde­pendent Corrupt Practices and Other related Offences Commission (ICPC) to men­tion but a few have done noble to recover a total of N115.7 Billion from alleged loot­ers, they should be named.
In my part of the country, when evil is named and those behind it exposed, either it lessens or stops entirely. Name the looters, so that the ill gotten wealth would no longer be used by fam­ily members later to intimi­date men who have worked hard to earn a decent living. Common men and low scale thieves would not prosecuted everyday yet naming of trea­sury looters becomes near im­possible in an administration perceived to be fighting cor­ruption. Please Mr President, name the looters now……..
