In the church, school and our various homes we are all urged to say the truth at all times and that truth is the only thing that can set us free. The implication is that even when you are at the point of being executed for wrong doing, say the truth.
Of course, the love for paradise and attainment of same are what propel people to say the undiluted truth. Again truth is a sign of good family upbringing and a child that says the truth always wins the trust and admiration of his parents.
In school, an honest and sincere child is the toast of every teacher. For many parents, their children that always say the truth win the parents’ love and kindness. They can vouch for those children, even to the point of death. A certain colleague was accused at his work place by his colleagues that he stole printing ink. The boss called him and asked him if it was true that he stole ink meant for printing. He told his boss that he could not do such a thing. That if he was accused of womanizing, he would not deny it but stealing, over his dead body, and his superior believed him because everybody in the company knew him as a womanizer but not a thief.
Yet there are times truth could land you into real mess. Like the time Peter denied Jesus three times, had Peter said the truth before his accusers he would not have lived to ask for forgiveness from the Lord Jesus Christ. So also Abraham in the land of Egypt, when he lied to Pharaoh that Sarah was his sister, he would have been killed before his blessing could materialise.
Julyann was so engrossed in love with her newly married bobo, so one night she was ready to pour her heart out to the heartthrob all for the sake of love. She lay on her husband’s hairy chest and caressed it adoringly reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet. From one discussion to the other, the husband told her stories of his love with women and the way he dribbled them, and how she, Julyann finally became the lucky one that dragged him to the altar for solemnization.
I love girls who tell all the truth. I love very lively women; now talking seriously, tell me how you … lost your virginity and who did it?” Ikem asked his wife.
“How would you ask me such a stupid question, did you not love what you see on our first day?”
“Let us not go into details. I am not saying I was not satisfied but you know I was not actually the first person to swim there, anyway as I told you the very first day, I was not looking for a virgin. For one, I can’t stand the sight of blood, if it comes to deflowering a babe, so come off it and give me the low down on how it happened and let’s use it to relax this evening.”
“Okay, I’ll tell you now, but not after now you will use it to abuse me.” Julyann said making a wry face.
“I am all ears.”
“There was one Chemist on that our street but he has packed out, he always troubled me because that was where Dad usually sent us to go and buy both drugs and provisions, so it happened that most of the time he would give me most of the items free and I did not know what he was driving at.
But I always noticed that whenever I extended my hand to pay for the items he would grab my hand and begin to caress it and because of his numerous gifts, I would not resist. Honestly I did not think he meant anything deeper than that after all he was across the counter and again he would even do it in the presence of people,” she said.
“That is normal now, anybody could touch any person’s skin, that is no problem.” Nkem urged her on.
“So it happened that… that time I was in SSII and it was a midterm break and daddy went to work. So you know he had been telling me something like let us go out, that he will buy me things. After much persuasion I told him that one day I would make out time to go out with him.
Honestly that day I thought we were going out to Bar Beach, Amusement Park or where we could buy things that he did not have in the office.
“He told me to follow him to Favourite, se bi, you know Favourite on the other street?”
“Yes I know it”
“Fine! And you know I don’t know what they were doing at that place. So when we got there, we stayed in the bar and he requested for malt and pepper soup for me. Then he ordered that the attendant should take the things to another room.
“When we got there I saw a bed well dressed and he convinced me that he has no plan to do me anything but wanted a convenient place to discuss as friends because he loved me. My head swelled because he was a fine guy.
“I took the malt and before you know it, I was sleeping and every other thing was story. He had his way into me without my consent.”
“My girl, I feel like killing the idiot, the vagabond, the nincompoop. I do not know that people could be this ruthless to women. This guy, doesn’t he have sisters, imagine another man did the same to his sister? Oh I love you dearly.” He cuddled her to his bosom and consoled her and promised to love her forever.
“But that guy was not the guy you were moving with when I met you. How were you meeting because he always came from Okoko area to this Orile?” Nkem asked curiously.
“When it was obvious that he was always worried that I could not follow him to Okoko all the time, I introduced Favourite to him,” Julyann disclosed.
“You mean that you asked this boy to be sleeping with you in the same hotel where your first bobo was taking you to? If I forgive you for the first, I will not forgive you for the second, are you a harlot?” Nkem flared up.
“Honey, I told you that I don’t want to have this discussion because I don’t know how to lie.”
Nkem was peeved by what he heard that night and decided in his mind that the marriage has come to an end because he was not ready to live with a woman who had an ugly past. His wife cried, held his boxers but all to no avail.
