Ali Modu Sheriff: Dissolve Makarfi C’ttee for peace in PDP

The disputed National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, yesterday gave conditions to end the crisis rocking the party, saying the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee must be dissolved as it is not known to the party’s constitution.
This is as Senator Buruji Kashamu, his former supporter appealed to him to soft-pedal in the in-terest of the party and its teeming members.
Sheriff, who spoke in Abuja when a delegation of Abia chapter of PDP from the 17 local gov-ernments paid him a solidarity visit, added that the other conditions is for him to nominate the convention chairman and also a fresh national convention to hold in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with a convention committee formed by 10 members apiece from his group and the Makarfi committee.
Explaining what transpired in the bid to finding a lasting solution to the crisis, Sheriff said that he was approached for reconciliation by the PDP Governors from the North-East, Darius Isiaku of Taraba and Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State which he accept-ed. Flanked by Senator Hope Uzodimma, former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Cairo Ojuogboh and a new entrant into the group, Barr Jimoh Ibrahim, during the event, Sheriff said that any gathering in the name of PDP convention in Port Harcourt will be illegal, maintain-ing that few individuals will not be allowed to pocket it.
He said: “I told them that the convention should hold in Abuja away from Port Harcourt. Peo-ple are interested in our party and how the impasse will be settled. “Yes, we have met and is-sues were discussed but all the issues I put forward for them was for the Makarfi Caretaker Committee to resign. “Since it is an aberration as far as our party constitution is concerned.
