Govt Imposes 24-Hour Curfew as Security Agents Kill Two Protesters in Plateau

Two persons have allegedly been shot dead in Bokkos, Plateau State, by security agents following the violent protests that have trailed the murder of Sef Ron Kulere, the traditional ruler of Bokkos, by suspected herdsmen.

To forestall further violence, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the local government area, urging security agents to curtail any escalation of the crisis.

Reporters gathered that the latest development followed the alleged arrest of some Fulani men with weapons piled up in a van on their way to Bokkos.

The security men allegedly shielded the arrested herdsmen from the mob that insisted that the suspected culprits be produced to them. In the ensuing fracas, the security agents shot two dead and left several others injured.

Announcing the imposition of the curfew, the SSG, Mr Rufus Bature, urged the security agents to ensure that the crisis does not escalate to other parts of the state, and to avert a total breakdown of law and order in the state.

He also commiserated with the people of Bokkos ‎over the loss of the paramount ruler.
