PDP Chairmanship: Dokpesi To Step Down For Bode George

As the race to produce the next national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensifies, a chieftain of the party,  Chief  Raymond  Dokpesi may step down for a former  Deputy  Chairman of the party, Chief  Olabode George, Independent has gathered.

According to an impeccable source in the party,  Dokpesi who has been campaigning vigorously to assume the position finally decided to forgo his ambition for  George.

Our source said Dokpesi, who will formally make a public declaration on the development told the party leaders in the Southwest that he believes that “the Atona Oodua, Chief Olabode George has the wisdom, maturity, expertise and experienced needed to reposition the party for victory in the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, a youth group within the PDP, Youths Alliance for Justice (YAJ) has declared total support for the ambition of George to lead the party.

The youths in a statement signed by its Secretary,  Oladele Busura also warned a factional chairman of the party, Ali Modu- Sheriff to steer clear of the party’s affairs or face its wrath.

It said from all indications, Sheriff, having played hide-and-seek for a while has finally decided show his true colour that he is desperate to unsettle the PDP so as not to be in opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“ While we declare total support for the national chairmanship ambition of Chief George, who has shown total commitment to the sustenance and development of PDP, we are issuing a final warning to Senator Ali Modu- Sheriff and his paymasters to hands off the affairs of the PDP or face the wrath of the youths”.

“ The PDP leaders brought Sheriff to stabilise the party. Now that the mission has been accomplished and he is asked to go, it beats us how he will continue to lay claim to the position and making the situation look like a do-or-die affair”

If  Sheriff has the genuine interest of PDP at heart as he has claimed, he will step aside and cooperate with the Ahmed Makarfi-led committee” the statement said.
