Reacting to a newspaper statement accredited to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Davil Lawal, which reads that projects appropriated for in the 2016 Budget will not be implemented, the Senate today ordered that the SGF be summoned immediately.
According to the lawmaker, the statement in question is published by Daily Trust on June 28, 2016.
Raising a frown point of order, Senator Matthew Urhoghide moved the motion calling for the invitation of the SGF to shed light on the controversial comment published by Daily Trust.
“With the SGF’s comments, my core responsibility of representation in the Senate is threatened,” Urhoghide shouts.
Condemning the comment on unfulfilling implementation, Urhoghide maintained that the appropriation bill, upon passage, became a law that must never be broken.
The Deputy Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, also threw her weight behind the criticism. She recalled that “the SGF is the highest administration nominee of the government and whatever he says will be regarded official.”
Senator Olujimi said the comments of SGF Babachir Lawal on the National Confab, Intervention Projects among other national matters are getting unwelcome.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, ruling on the motion, passed that the SGF, Babachir Lawal, appear before the Senate Committees on Ethics Privileges and Public Petition, Finance and Appropriation.
