2017/18 UK Chevening scholarships application window opens

The Chevening Sec­retariat has called for applications for the 2017/2018 Chevening Scholarships.
The applications window which opened on Monday, and will remain until No­vember 8, 2016 are acces­sible via www.chevening.org/apply.
Reports say the call for new applicants follows the selection of 53 scholars from Nigeria, who won an award to study at a UK uni­versity this year. In 2015, 45 Nigerians benefitted from the fully funded scholarship
The Chevening Scholar­ships are awarded by the UK Government under its global scholarship pro­gramme, funded by the Foreign and Common­wealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations to individuals with demon­strable leadership potential who also have strong aca­demic backgrounds.
It offers financial support for individuals to study for a master’s degree at any UK university and the oppor­tunity to become part of an influential global network of 46,000 alumni.

A statement by the Brit­ish High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright,
“Those who are selected for a Chevening Scholar­ship become recognised as leaders belonging to a glob­al network of influencers. They are empowered with a strong sense of pride and responsibility.”
He called on young Ni­gerians looking to make a positive impact on their country, and to further deepen the strong ties be­tween the UK and Nigeria, to take advantage of the op­portunity and apply to be­come Chevening scholars.
“The UK is home to many of the world’s best universities, and Cheve­ning enables you to develop academically, profession­ally, and personally whilst studying in the UK,” Ark­wright said.
More than 1,000 Nige­rians have benefitted from Chevening Scholarships since the first award in 1983.
They include John Mo­moh – MD Channels TV, Mohammed Babandede, Comptroller General of Immigration, and Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sa­nusi.
