Lagos School Invaded by Kidnappers, Abduct Students, Vice Principal, Teacher

Kidnappers have invaded a Lagos school with three speedboats and abducted four students, the vice principal and a teacher.
The armed criminals alleg­edly stormed Lagos State Mod­el College, Igbo Nla in Epe Local Government Area on Thursday morning and kidnapped the vic­tims.
The State Police Commis­sioner, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the incident, said two of the students had been found in the bush. He did not disclose whether they were abandoned or rescued by the police or vigilan­tes in the area.

Yesterday’s kidnap came barely six months after a simi­lar incident occurred at Babing­ton Macaulay Anglican School, Ikorodu, Lagos where three fe­male students were abducted.
They were later rescued by a combined team of the Police, Nigerian Navy and State Securi­ty Service (SSS) operatives who also arrested the suspects.
In the Igbo Nla school inva­sion, Reporters gath­ered that the assailants stormed the premises at about 8 am on Thursday and shot their ways into the compound where they kidnapped the victims.
A police source told our re­porter that the kidnappers came in three speed boats painted in green colours and fled through Ogun lagoon after the incident
An eyewitness claimed that there was no police presence in the school at the time of the inci­dent but alleged that distress calls were made to the nearest police station
Owoseni said he got wind of the matter at about 8 am.
He said: “At about 8am yes­terday, we learnt that kidnap­pers in speedboats stormed La­gos Model School, Igbo Nla and abducted four pupils, a teacher and the vice principal of the col­lege but two of the students were later recovered in the bush.”
The police chief said that Ma­rine Police and other sister agen­cies including the Navy, the De­partment of State Security (DSS) have swung into action to ensure the arrest of the suspects.
As at 4pm yesterday, the state police command’s special anti-robbery squad, the marine police and other security outfits were still combing the state to fish out the kidnappers.
Owoseni, who later briefed journalists at the state police headquarters, insisted that two of the students had regained freedom.
Owoseni said: “All hands are on deck to make sure that the victims are rescued and the criminals apprehended in good time and with the crop of person­nel involved in the operation, it is impossible for the kidnappers to escape; Police spokesperson in Lagos, Bisi Kolawole, told the journalists that two of the stu­dents had been rescued.
“We’re still on their trail to rescue the others who include the vice principal, a teacher and two students,” Kolawole, an assistant commissioner of police, said.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has called on the security agencies in the country to intensify rescue efforts for stu­dents and teachers kidnapped in Lagos.
The House order followed a motion moved by Wale Raji, a lawmaker from the state, under matters of urgent national im­portance.
Raji explained how the kid­nappers attacked the school and abducted the victims when they were observing the morning prayers on the assembly.
The lawmaker said he was told about the development shortly after the House resumed plenary on Thursday and was compelled to bring it to the at­tention of his colleague and, by extension, the country.
