Supreme Court Confirms Dickson as Bayelsa Governor

The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the election of Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State.
The seven-man apex court panel headed by Justice Ibra­him Muhammad while de­livering its judgment on the disputed governorship elec­tion in the state, dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Timipre Sylva, which had challenged Dickson’s emer­gence under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the unanimous decision of the court, Justice Muham­mad dismissed the appeal filed by the APC and Sylva.
It, however, reserved its reasons for the verdict till Fri­day, November 18.
It would be recalled that the Bayelsa State Governor­ship Election Petition Tri­bunal had earlier dismissed the petition filed by Sylva to challenge the outcome of the election.
Dissatisfied with the ver­dict of the tribunal, Sylva ap­proached the Court of Appeal in Abuja which also dismissed his case for lacking in merit.
