FG Recovers N292.44bn From 33 Agencies

A federal government audit report on 33 revenue yielding agencies has uncovered sharp practices aimed at non-disclosure of actual revenues accruing to them.
The reports have so far yielded a recovery of N292.44bn.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, made the disclosure yesterday during a media briefing where she said the govern­ment was about to recover about N450bn operating surpluses that were not re­mitted by 33 agencies from 2010 to 2015.

Adeosun, who noted that an audit had been car­ried out on the agencies in compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA), 2007 said a recovery com­mittee headed by the Ac­countant General of the Federation had been set up to recover the money from the agencies.
She explained that an audit of the thirty-three revenue generating agen­cies, discovered that many generating agencies have consistently refused to re­mit their operating surplus into government coffers.
The revenue generating agencies include: Nigeria Communication Commis­sion, NCC, Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency, NI­MASA, Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Indus­trial Training Fund, ITF, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, Nige­rian Railway Corporation, NRC, National Examina­tion Council, NECO, West Africa Examination Coun­cil, WAEC, Joint Adminis­trations and Matriculation Board, JAMB.
Others include: Nige­rian Export-Import Bank, NEXIM, National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, National Hospital Abuja, National Broadcast­ing Commission, NBC, Nigeria Television Author­ity, NTA, Nigeria Immigra­tion Service, NIS, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, National Teachers Institute.
Others are: University of Lagos Teaching Hos­pital, University College Hospital, Ibadan, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Ig­bobi, Lagos, University of Lagos, University of Nige­ria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Na­tional Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, National Centre for Women Development, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria Shipper’s Council, University of Benin, University of Ilo­rin, University of Ibadan, Bayero University, Kano.
Adeosun, however dis­closed, that some of the agencies had started re­turning various sums, say­ing that N640 million had been received from the Ni­geria Shippers Council.
