Northern Group Seek Emefiele's Sack as Recession Bites Harder

A group of northern Ni­gerian lawyers have urged president Mu­hammadu Buhari to sack the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. It expressed dissat­isfaction at the way the gov­ernor is handling the fiscal policies of the country which it alleged, brought untold hardship on Nigerians.
The lawyers, under the ae­gis of Arewa Young Lawyers Forum (AYLF), premised their call for the disengage­ment of Mr. Godwin Eme­fiele on the hardship Nige­rians are facing due to his alleged inability to properly coordinate the nation’s eco­nomic policy.

For this reason, the lawyers gave President Muhammadu Buhari 14 days ultimatum to take bold steps to salvage the worsening economic situa­tion by disengaging Emefiele as the governor of CBN.
According to the President of the group, Barr. Abubakar Sadiq Ilelah, “failure by this government to reason with the above position will push us to join forces with other anti-corruption groups and other like- minded Nigerian youths to come out and show our discomfort with the way things are being run by the CBN governor’’.
The AYLF expressed dis­satisfaction that “the hard­ship among the majority of Nigerians is geometrically in the increase by the day due to the lackadaisical style in the management of Nigeria’s apex bank’’.
