Army Deploys Troops in Southern Kaduna to Curb Killings in Affected Region

The Nigerian Army has sent troops to Southern Kaduna to stop the killings in the northern state, The Nation reports.
The Army confirmed the development on Tuesday, January 3 through its spokesman Brigadier-General Sani Kukasheka Usman.
Usman revealed that the Army is not working alone to stop the killing. Also working with it are the police and the Department of State Service (DSS).

Usman also confirmed the earlier report by Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai that at least one military formation would be created in the region to further deter attackers from killing people in the area.

Usman also said that the Army aims to consolidate on the gains recorded in the fight against insurgency in the Northeast.

”We will continue to accord high priority to training, regimentation and welfare of the troops.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has directed that the next Nigerian Army Small Arms Competition (NASAC) 2017 be conducted in the Sambisa forest.

“Already, efforts are on by the Nigerian army engineers to open more routes and construct bridges into the once Boko Haram haven to facilitate access to the forest,’’ Usman said.

Meanwhile, Nigerian troops on Tuesday, January 3, repelled an early morning attack by fleeing Boko Haram insurgent on Dar village in Madagali local government area of Adamawa state.

The chairman of Madagali local government Yusuf Mohammed said the attack was contained by the prompt response of security operatives in the areas.
