Boko Haram: Army to Spend N5 Billion on the Procurement of Weapons for 2017

The Nigerian army will be spending N5 billion on the purchase of new weapons in 2017.

Punch reports that this was listed on the 2017 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It was also gathered that the army will spend an additional N846 million for the repair of other existing military equipment to help in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.

Also, the total budget for the Ministry of Defence, the Nigerian army, the Nigerian navy and the Nigerian air force is fixed at N152bn.

A breakdown of the allocation shows that the army is to receive N152 billion, the navy N91 billion, while N100 billion has been earmarked for the Nigerian air force.

The capital expenditure for the Nigerian army is at N20 billion while the rehabilitation and repair of weapons is expected to cost N846,033,430.

This fresh allocation comes as the Nigerian military has said that Boko haram most deadly hideout, Sambisa forest has been liberated.

Also, on Saturday, Decemeber 31, the Nigerian army under the leadership of the chief of staff Tukur Buratai presented the Boko Haram flag recovered from Camp Zero, Sambisa forest to President Muhammadu Buhari.
