Senate Set to probe Southern Kaduna Killings

Shocked by the recent mas­sacre in Southern Kaduna by suspected Fulani militiamen, the Senate has hinted of its readiness to probe the incident.
The assurance came from the Senate President Abubakar Bu­kola Saraki on Tuesday, who said that upon its resumption from the Christmas and New Year break, the Senate would investigate the immediate and remote causes of the killings in the Southern part of Kaduna State.

While responding to the cry of a concerned Nigerian on Twit­ter on Monday, Saraki in a state­ment issued by his Special Assis­tant on New Media, Bamikole Omishore, said: “Once @ngrse­nate resumes, this issue will be ad­dressed to get a clearer picture of what the real situation is and find a lasting solution.”
A twitter user, Chimeze Okoro Ukoha had tweeted: “@Bu­kolasaraki About 800 Christians massacred in Kaduna and nobody is talking about that. VERY BAD.”
Saraki further tweeted: “Every Nigerian life matters, and @ngrse­nate will work to ensure that the rule of law is always upheld as pre­scribed by the Nigerian Constitu­tion.”
Saraki said that he was in touch with Senators from the cri­sis-ravaged state and constantly getting updates on developments in the area even though the Sen­ate is on recess.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) has appealed to opinion and religious leaders to refrain from giving religious in­terpretations to the crisis between herdsmen and farmers in South­ern Kaduna.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Ehisienmen Osaigbovo in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister said that his caution became expedient following insin­uations that the criminal violence in Southern Kaduna has religious interpretations.
He appealed to Nigerians to refrain from making comments capable of heightening the crisis and joined the government to end the perennial problem.
