Woman Gives Birth to Quintuplets 10 Years After Marriage in C'Rivers State

A woman, Mrs. Esther Ekpo Edet, who had been mar­ried for 10 years without any child, has been delivered of a set of quintuplets at the Univer­sity of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Cross River State.
She gave birth to the children – three girls and two boys on Mon­day.
Her husband, Dr. Ekpo Edet, said that they were dazed because they asked God for a child and He gave them five at once.

Already, the wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, has come to the couple’s aid as she donated a cash of N1 million and items worth millions of naira to the family.
Mrs. Ayade, in company of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong and the Direc­tor-General of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, described the feat as a sign of better things to come for the family.
She said: “I thank you for choosing professional care because as a state and country, we are com­mitted to reducing the rate of ma­ternal and infant mortality to zero level. This is good news for Nigeria that a set of quintuplets were deliv­ered successfully; mother and chil­dren are hale and hearty; we thank God.”
Earlier, Edet, who is a gynae­cologist at the UCTH, described the birth of the babies after 10 years of marriage as “nothing short of a miracle.”
Edet said: “To be blessed with three girls and two boys at a go, af­ter 10 years of marriage, is a mi­raculous blessing. This is the first time in the history of Cross River State and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital that a woman, my wife, would be delivered of a quintuplet. God has been faithful.”
In a chat with The AUTHOR­ITY, the elated father of five said that “we asked for just one, but God gave us this number. We shall ever remain grateful to Him.”
Asked if he will still have more babies after the quintuplets were weaned, Edet replied: “No! This number is enough for us. As be­nevolent family, we owe a duty to pray for families seeking for chil­dren.”
Asibong commended the team of obstetrics and gynaecol­ogists as well as paediatricians for their professionalism in ensuring that the mother and babies were properly catered for.
