PDP: I'll Quit after PDP National Convention - Sheriff

Still basking of his victory at the Appeal Court, the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared that he would quit his office as soon as the crisis-ridden party holds its Na­tional Convention.
He promised to reopen the Wadata Plaza National Secretari­at of the party tomorrow to ena­ble the party begins its normal op­erations.

The former Borno State Gov­ernor therefore, appealed to gover­nors elected on the platform of the party not to divide it any more for their selfish interests.
Sheriff stated this when he hosted members of the PDP from the South West region led by the National Vice Chairman, Ma­kanjuola Ogundipe, who came to pledge loyalty to him in Abuja.
He said, “Ali Modu Sheriff is not here to remain as National Chairman. As soon as we hold our National Convention, I’m leaving.
“I will make sure that we do a credible convention and we elect leaders that are acceptable by the grassroots, that is our mission. I will do that by the grace of God.
The reinstated Chairman add­ed that he is working at reconciling the party and allow someone else emerge as chairman at a proper­ly organised party convention, he said.
Berating the Caretaker Com­mittee led by Sen Ahmed Makarfi for heading to the Supreme Court to challenge the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Sheriff disclosed that both parties had agreed dur­ing the scuffle that the judgement of the appellate court would not be taken to the Supreme Court.
He said: “I plead in the name of God, let’s bring peace to PDP. Let us build this party. If you like and you want to change some­thing, wait for the convention and vote for the person you like and Nigerians and the world will see that you’re are validly elected by the PDP.
“Yes, our governors are very important, they are leaders of this party by their own rights; they don’t have to divide the party. I will not come down to the level of Governor Peter Fayose of Ekiti State, I beg him to respect the PDP. Whatever he said about me, pos­terity will judge him. He should de­vote more energy and time to the rebuilding of PDP.
“Makarfi and I resolved that whatever is the outcome of the Ap­peal Court judgement, we will not destroy our party; that once we get the judgement from the Court of Appeal that will be the final judge­ment for everybody.
Earlier, Ogundipe who led the state chairmen of the party in the South West said they were in Abuja to rejoice with Sheriff on his victo­ry and to also advise him to pursue reconciliation in the interest of the party rather than showing vendet­ta against those who fought him.
The meeting was attended by Chief Olaoluwa Ganiyu Osun (Oyo State), Akeem Taiwo (Ekiti), Chief Ajayi William, Soji Adagu­nodo (Osun), Biyi Porooye (Ondo) and the Chairman of Chairmen of South West, Dayo Adedayo.
