Speculations as Senate President Saraki, Dogara, Others Visit Buhari in Uk (Photos)

Concerns over the health of President Muhammadu Bu­hari mounted yesterday as the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki and the House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Doga­ra, led a four-man delegation of the National Assembly to London to see the President.

Other members of the delegation were the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed La­wan and the Majority Leader of House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Before they embarked on the unscheduled trip, Sara­ki and Dogara had in their twitter handle last week told Nigerians that they had sep­arate telephone conversa­tions with President Buhari.
Thereafter, the Presiden­cy issued a statement that the United States (US) Presi­dent Donald Trump had a chat with Buhari where he unveiled his administra­tion’s agenda for Nigeria.

Not satisfied with all the assurances by the Presi­dency and the National As­sembly that Buhari is hale and hearty, Nigerians have continued to demand that the President speaks to them the same way he did to those who either met with him or contacted him on phone.
Although details on why the National Assembly lead­ership travelled to London in the early hours of yester­day to see the President re­mained sketchy, there are speculations that it was in­formed by apprehension among the political elite, es­pecially from the North, and the implications of the Presi­dent’s continued absence on governance.

A National Assembly source told Correspondents that the unscheduled vis­it of Saraki and Dogara was not unconnected with the increasing doubts and spec­ulations on his health status.
President Buhari had in his second letter to the Sen­ate on February 7, 2017 no­tified the Upper House of his intention to extend his 10-day medical vacation indefinitely to enable him complete some tests before returning to the country.
While briefing Senate Correspondents on the Pres­ident’s letter, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media, Senator Aliyu Abdul­lahi Sabi, confirmed the re­ceipt of the president’s sec­ond letter.
