After shutting down the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for repair, the Federal Government has taken steps to construct a second runway at the airport. The project will be completed within two years.
The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, dropped the hint when he inspected the Kaduna Airport in the company of Minister of Information, Alh Lai Mohammed.
The Kaduna Airport is serving as alternative to the shut Abuja Airport, Sirika said that there are no last minute changes, which he declared would be possible once the process for the construction of the runway commences.
He said: “Yes, there will be a second runway in Abuja. Hopefully, within the next 24 months we will have a new runway. There is a second runway in Kano, a military runway, a second runway in Lagos, a second runway in Port Harcourt. So, they have second runways and I think the focus of government now within the limited resources is to do a second runway in Abuja.
The minister said that the government would squeeze funds from the 2017 budget to build a second runway in Abuja.
