Troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion, 22 Task Force Brigade of Operation Lafiya Dole have destroyed a Boko Haram logistics base and rescued 455 persons held hostage by the sect in parts of Borno State.
The troops also recovered a Gun truck, one Canter vehicle and a pick-up van from the terrorists.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Army spokesman, Brig-Gen Sani Usman, said that the operation is part of the ongoing efforts to clear remnants of the fleeing terrorists.
He said: “Troops of 112 Task Force Battalion, 22 Task Force Brigade, today carried out a major offensive against suspected hideouts of Boko Haram terrorists at Artano, Saduguma, Duve, Bordo, Kala, Magan, Ahisari, Gilgil, Hiwa, and Sirawa settlements in Kala Balgi Local Government Area of Borno State.
“The troops also encountered Boko Haram terrorists at Shirawa who withdrew in disarray when they could not withstand the firepower of the troops and abandoned the newly constructed Logistics Base, two freshly prepared suicide bombing vests and maize grinding machine.
“The gallant soldiers proceeded further to clear Bok, Misherde, Mika and Kutila also in Kala Balgi Local Government Area of Borno State where they liberated 433 persons held hostage by the terrorists.
Usman added that the rescued persons have been moved to Rann Internally Displaced Persons Camp (IDP).
