False Media Reports: Ifeanyi Ubah Refutes Rumours Of DSS Arrest, Bags NIPR Award

Business mogul, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd and the Publisher of The AUTHORITY Newspapers, has debunked rumours that he was arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS).
Ubah, who spoke to The AUTHORITY on the telephone yesterday, said the rumours of his purported arrest were propaganda against him by his detractors.
Chief Ubah spoke on telephone several times yesterday with the Managing Director of The AUTHORITY newspaper, Mr Madu Onuorah, and replied to a text message from the Editor, Dr Kelechi Onyemaobi – clear indications that he was not under any incarceration.

According to Ubah, who is the founder of premier division Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club, “If I am arrested, I would not be talking with you now. They should continue writing, but those who are in doubt should come and watch football match tomorrow because I will be there.”
Some online platforms had curiously reported that the founder of Capital Oil was arrested and detained by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS).
But an aide of the business mogul said all attempts to smear the good name his boss has earned would be in futility.
According to the aide, “I can tell you that my boss’s good name in the country today cannot be smeared. He is a hardworking businessman. All these propaganda about him is because he has become a big force to be reckoned with in the nation’s energy sector and beyond.”
Meanwhile, Dr Ubah is among several prominent Nigerians who have bagged a Reputation Award from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
Others are the immediate past Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, Mrs Uche Ekwunife, Prof. Charles Esimone, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, UNIZIK and the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr Hilary Odili Okeke. They were among those who bagged the Reputation Award from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, during a Reputation Summit held at the Parktonian Hotel, Awka, Anambra State, on Thursday.
Some other outstanding Nigerians, who were also honoured at the ceremony include: Prof. Kate Omenugha, Hon. Commissioner for Education, Anambra State; Dr. Anthony Obiora Chukwuka, Chairman of Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Ltd; Mr. Okafor Chigozie, Chairman of Dynatec Systems Ltd; Chief Festus Kamdikora; Chuks Ochonogor, founder of NOVENA University, Ogume, Delta State; Chief Sir Chikodi Anara, Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Security Matters; Chief Frank Sunny Okonkwo and High Chief Onyeka Obi; among others.
The National Chairman/ President of NIPR, Dr Rotimi Oladele, in his remarks during the ceremony, noted that the award recipients, as heads of their various organizations and corporate entities, distinguished themselves and their organizations in many ramifications. He said that there was no better way to encourage integrity, trustworthiness and hard work than what the group did.
Congratulating the awardees for measuring up to reputable standards, Oladele encouraged community, political and religious leaders, as well as captains of industries to emulate the virtues that made the selected individuals to garner the awards.
“The Reputation Award is organized by our organization as a way of rewarding integrity, honesty and hard work; and also a way of encouraging people to imbibe the spirit in their everyday lives”, he added.
He singled out Dr Ubah, Bishop Okeke and Senator Ekwunife for special commendation, noting that the ingenuity, resourcefulness, sincerity and integrity which the trio brought to bear in Oil and Gas business, episcopacy and politics, respectively were noteworthy.
Addressing newsmen after receiving her own award, Senator Ekwunife, former senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, hailed the initiative of the organizers, describing it as timely. She said that NIPR was thoughtful in selecting the awardees who she said, were men and women of impeccable integrity and hard work, adding that the awardees were pacesetters in their various areas of endeavour.
The summit, tagged “Doing Business in Nigeria in an Era of Recession: Problems and Prospects”, was attended by government functionaries, politicians and captains of industry. It also featured the swearing-in of the 10th Executive Council of NIPR, Anambra State Chapter, with Lady Chinwe Nnedum as the State chairman.
