PDP Crisis: Members of Staff of the PDP says They Can't Work with Sheriff

The crisis in the Peo­ples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is becoming messier by the day as 127 members of staff of the party yesterday ex­plained why they cannot work with Sen Ali Modu Sheriff, who was reinstated recently by the Appeal Court sitting in Port Har­court.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the staff expressed fear over their lives, add­ing that, “Following the judgment validating the National Convention by FHC in Port Harcourt, members of staff were re­quested to resume duty in May/June, 2016, they did so.

“In the few days we re­ported for work, we were harassed and intimidated by demonstrators and pro­testers. We were violently chased out of the offices; many had to run away leaving their personal belongings which we un­derstand have now been vandalised by unknown persons.”
Speaking on behalf of the staff, PDP National Di­rector of Administration, Alh Gurama Bawa, said that they were ready to re­sume at the party National Secretary when peace re­turns to PDP.
He said: “Peace in PDP cannot be said to have been achieved; once we see peace, we will report to work. We are neither on the side of Sheriff nor Ma­karfi. We will work with Sheriff or Makarfi provid­ed the place is safe.”
Bawa described the staff as the major casualty of the crisis rocking the party as Sheriff and Makarfi had experienced victory in the court at different times and levels culminating in the Appeal Court judgment that recognised Senator Sheriff and ordered the re­turn to status quo ante may 21, 2016.
While he said that by the pronouncement of the Ap­peal Court, Cairo Ojoug­boh and Bernard Mikko are not supposed to parade themselves as Deputy Na­tional Chairman and Pub­licity Secretary, respec­tively, Bawa explained that members of staff are desir­ous of resuming work after having been made victim of problems they never caused but are concerned about their safety.
Explaining the status quo ante, he said the for­mer National Working Committee (NWC) made up of Sheriff, Uche Secon­dus, Olisa Metuh and oth­ers should have resumed and not the crop of people parading themselves as of­ficers of the party working with Sheriff.
