APC Crisis Deepens as Govs Show Disloyalty To The Parties NWC

The 24 governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have continued to show their disloyalty to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) when they for the second time, bluffed and shunned a meeting called by the John Odigie Oyegun-led NWC yesterday.
The governors, who have se­rially criticised the position of the NWC in certain issues, had earli­er shunned the meeting which was fixed to hold in Abuja in March.

The AUTHORITY gathered that, part of the agenda of the meet­ing was to discuss the party’s source of fundraising to host the next Na­tional Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which has been slated for next week in Abuja.
Sources at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, confirmed that the party sent out letters of invita­tion to the APC governors for the meeting, adding that the National Chairman also singularly put calls across to them to notify them of the meeting.
The source, who regretted the boycott by the governors, noted that it was a sign of concern to the par­ty, since according to him the gov­ernors are the pillars of the party.
“This is a very worrisome signal from the governors. For the second time, they have shunned invitations for meeting with the NWC. You can see that majority of the NWC mem­bers have arrived for the meeting, even though they had signs that the governors may not show up yester­day, when there was no signal of at­tendance from any of the 24 gover­nors before we closed work.
“The secretariat officially in­formed all the governors and the National Chairman also called some of them one–on-one and they admitted receipt of the invita­tion letters, but today, not even one of them showed up. This is a wor­risome development in this party as we enter into the critical elec­tion preparation year”, regretted a management staff at the APC sec­retariat.
Meanwhile the National Cau­cus and National Executive Com­mittee (NEC) meetings of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for April 24 and 25, 2017 respectively, have been postponed indefinitely.
APC National Publicity Secre­tary, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi, said in a statement issued yesterday that the postponement is due to unex­pected developments, adding that new dates for the meetings will be communicated in due course, but it was gathered that the postpone­ment was as a result of lack of fund as the governors who were expect­ed to bring money for the exercise could not honour the panned meet­ing
The APC has showed signs of disunity within its ranks, with a di­vided NWC and governors who have been very critical of certain decisions of the leadership of the party.
Another source within the par­ty also alleged that the governors have been keeping away from the NWC because they do not want to bring in money for the party lead­ership, adding that they have never believed in them.
Also, there are allegations that the political calculations ahead of the 2019 elections may have been the reasons for orphan treatment which is being given to the APC leadership, as the governors and members of the National assem­bly have being weighing their op­tions of remaining with the APC or joining some of the newly reg­istered mega parties.
The APC has been facing finan­cial crisis as it is reported to have cancelled its earlier planned Na­tional Convention because of lack of fund, even as it has found it diffi­cult to fund most of its inaugurated committee, leading to some of them abandoning their work because of paucity of fund.
Kano State Governor, Abdula­hi Umar Ganduje had earlier urged the APC leadership to look for oth­er sources of raising funds, stress­ing that the governors cannot use their state money to run the par­ty’s affairs.
It was also noted that one of the governors from the South West has told the APC National Chairman in the NWC’s last meeting with them, that the states have enough things to do with their allocations and cannot be made to be funding the APC at the centre.
