Continued Illegal Detention: Obey court Order, Release Ifeanyi Ubah, Sports Club tells DSS

A group, the Bever­ly Hills Recreation Sports Club, Nnewi in Anambra State, has asked the Department of State Servic­es (DSS) to obey the order of the Federal High Court, Lagos to unconditionally release the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
Justice Muhammed Idris had penultimate Thursday di­rected the DSS to release Ubah unconditionally or charge him to court within 48 hours. He asked the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to ensure that his order is complied with by the DSS.

But 10 days after the rul­ing, the DSS is yet to release Ubah, who was detained on the basis of a commercial dis­pute between his company and the Nigerian national Petrole­um Corporation (NNPC).
Members of the sports club, who are shocked by the DSS’ action, assembled at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Nnewi on Sunday with placards of vari­ous inscriptions and marched towards Nkwo- Nnewi Trian­gle, singing pro-Ifeanyi Ubah songs.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards read: “Free Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, save thousands of Nigerians; DSS, obey court process, release Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah; Ifeanyi Ubah deserves justice, let the rule of law pre­vail; Beverly Hills Lawn Ten­nis Club condemns the illegal detention of Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah; DSS, release Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, let him go”.
In a statement issued by the group after the peaceful protest, they condemned the continued detention of Ubah, whom they described as their prime minister.
The statement signed by the club’s Acting President, Mr. George Adinnu (Kezico) and Secretary-General, Mr. Chris­tian Idoko, said that, “we, the members of Beverly Hills Rec­reation Club, in strong terms, condemn the continued incar­ceration of our Prime Minis­ter, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd, by the officers of the DSS, even against the directives of a Fed­eral High Court, Lagos issued on 25th May, 2017, ordering his release.
“We wish to join forces with all men and women of goodwill to ask for the uncon­ditional release of Dr. Ubah in the face of this intimidation and adjudged illegal deten­tion by the DSS.
“We, as a body of men and women, wish to state that we have no political inclination whatsoever. We have seen and feel the goodwill that Dr. Ubah has shown to Nigerians to unite beyond ethnic and religious divide, thus the need for justice for him.
“Nigerians should raise their voices and join efforts to fight against this injustice, which, if left unchecked, will infest the membrane of our justice system and endanger the health of our democratic existence as a nation.”
