Mexico clinched passage into the group stage Saturday with a 2-1 victory against host Russia, finishing with seven points from three group matches with Portugal ahead of the North Americans by goal difference, Mexico moved into the knockout stage of the tournament as the second-placed team in Group A.
The stage looked set for a rematch of last season's Copa America Centenario quarterfinal against Chile, which Mexico lost 7-0 in the low point of coach Juan Carlos Osorio's tenure, but La Roja's draw with Australia means that match would have to wait until the final or third-place game.
On Sunday, Mexico went through a light training session before leaving Monday for Sochi.
The semifinal against Germany will take place in Sochi's Fisht Olympic Stadium .
