United’s chances of bagging the 24-year-old Italy star have been boosted after he appointed Mino Raiola as his agent.

Raiola has a very strong relationship with United and Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Verratti to Old Trafford.

But The Mirror report that a potential £60m deal has hit the rocks after PSG demanded Martial in return.

United are unwilling to let the ex-Monaco man leave and are still in talks with the French giants as they seek to secure Verratti’s services.

Jose Mourinho insists David De Gea will stay put at United this summer despite the ongoing reports linking the 26-year-old with Real Madrid.

Ahead of Sunday's pre-season International Champions Cup match against Real, Mourinho said: "I can guarantee that he is not going this season.

"My feeling is it will very difficult for him to go. He is a very honest, straight boy. He was contacted for a long time, the club was closed and then we opened.

"I always have this feeling when a player has a desire to go, then I don't like to stop players. So we opened it and then they decided to close it.

"I see him really happy, focused, working better than ever and 100 per cent he stays with us."
