Reports: Again Gunmen Attack Another Church In Onitsha, Anambra state

Reports has it that another Church was attacked by unknown Gunmen today in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The attack took place on the premises of an Assemblies of God church situated along Oguta road in Onitsha.This development is coming exactly seven days after St Philips Catholic church in Ozubulu, Anambra state was attacked by gunmen, claiming the lives of 13 people and leaving 27 injured.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen had stopped at the Assemblies of God church for unknown reasons and on sighting some policemen stationed around the church, a gun battle ensued. A policeman and a civilian were killed.

According to an eyewitness;

When the firing became too hot, the policemen abandoned their patrol vehicle and ran away for safety.The gunmen moved to their patrol van and took a gun belonging to the policeman they killed.I saw two of the gunmen but I can’t say how many they are in number.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra state commissioner of police, Umar Garba, stated that it was not an attack on the church. In his words;

“My men were on patrol near the church when they were attacked by some gunmen. It was not an attack on the church, in the real sense of it”

The commissioner also confirmed that the hoodlums took away a rifle belonging to the slain officer.
