Suicide bombers in northeastern Nigeria have claimed the lives of at least 30 people and injuring about 80.
According to a member of the local civilian defense forces, the attack took place just out side the capital.
“Three female bombers triggered their explosives outside of the IDP (internally displaced persons) camp... killing 28 people and wounding 82 others," said Baba Kura, a member of a vigilante force set up to fight jihadists.
“People were trying to close their shops when two other female bombers triggered their explosives, causing most of the casualties," he added.
A "huge number" of people were admitted to the Maiduguri hospital, a local medical source said. Two people later succumbed to their injuries.
Several bomb attacks, suspected to be orchestrated by Boko Haram, have taken place in recent weeks. Mosques, markets and camps hosting people displaced by the ongoing conflict in Nigeria have largely been the points of attack.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who came to power in 2015, pledged to eliminate Boko Haram from the country.
After an announcement by Buhari that the army had “crushed” the terror group by reclaiming the Sambisa Forest in Borno occupied by them, they retaliated with sporadic shooting and bombing attacks in the northeastern region of the African nation.
