8(eight) Months later…
Abike’s friendship with Folarin had grown from being friends to siblings. She knew everyone in his family. Folarin understood spiritual matters and they always discussed on the same frequency. Their participation in the NGO increased as both motivated one another to do more.
With him, she was always herself and he respected her so well and never took advantage of her. Everyone around was already wondering why they had not taken their relationship to the next level. People could see that were already in love with each other, even when they denied countless times. Folarin and his friend Bosun were having lunch together in a restaurant when Bosun brought Abike’s issue again.
“Guy forget…you hardly say a thing or two without mentioning Abike’s name…”
“Okay you won….I’m inlove with her but....”
“ Yayyyyy….I said it” Bosun yelled not allowing Folarin to finish his statement
“Just listen Bosun, I’m sacred she will say no if I ask her to marry me…she’s always saying she’s not ready for any relationship each time I ask her indirectly..” Folarin said with a disturbed look.
“Fola….I can tell you she doesn’t mean it….come on… that lady loves you just as much as you love her”
“Yes I know…but as a friend…she calls me her brother…I don’t want to ruin our friendship”
“Forget that thing Fola…you just pray about it, then go ahead and talk to her”
“Hmmmmmmm….I will give it a shot Bosun…thanks man…”
“You’re welcome buddy”

Abike was in an eatery waiting for Folarin. She had promised to give him her final word concerning his marriage proposal. While waiting for him, she called Wura on the phone when she was beginning to have doubts again.
“Oh come on Abike…why are you making it seem as if you just met him”
“I’m not sure I know him enough” Abike replied
“Come on Abike, you claim to have let go off your past but you haven’t”
“Wura I have…..”
“No you haven’t , for God’s sake, Folarin is not Tunde neither is he Olamide…for the past one week this guy has been waiting for you to give him an answer….we both know you love me…you told me that yourself”
“Yes I do but what if something bad happens again and the wedding does not hold”
“My dear what you share with Folarin is very strong, its more than a bond…imagine the lives you guys will impact together as a couple if you can do all this now that you are just friends…I feel God is bringing you both together for a purpose…remember you told me Fola has been involved in other relationships that did not work out for reasons that were not his fault…the last one left just because she wanted them to relocate to France when they get married since she grew up there… Mummy-Rachael even confirmed this”
“Hmmm…Wura…”
“Common girl…you can do this….”
As they were talking, Folarin walked into the eatery.
“Babes let me call you later….Folarin just walked in”
“Alright dearie…later”
Abike hung up the phone.
“Abiks! Abiks!…this one you are looking very humble today”
He called her by the pet name he had given to her
“Fola please no teasing just sit down and listen” She said with a firm look
“Okay…..sorry” he said smiling
“ Fola”
“Yes dear”
“I don’t want to beat around the bush….I have thought about everything and I believe that if we put God first the way we’ve been putting him first in the friendship we both share, then we can have a beautiful life together and on that note I have resolved that I will marry you” she voiced out slowly
“What! Please…. say it again”
“I will marry you Fola” She said again as her eyes brightened up
“Wow…thank you Abike…I believe God is with us on this….I strongly believe” he held her hands as he assured her.
“I believe so too” She smiled holding back her tears
“I will like to say a short prayer” Folarin whispered
“Go ahead dear”
“Our loving heavenly Father, we come to You together on this special occasion of our engagement, giving You our grateful thanks that You brought us together, in love. Keep us united in love to each other and to You, and help us to keep You in the rightful place in our hearts and in our lives.
You are the God of love and we thank You Lord, that You have caused such a deep love for each other to develop between us. We want to dedicate our future together to You Lord - with each other. Be with us Lord as we grow closer together and as we make our plans for the future we ask that You would guide us and direct us in all our decisions. Lord we desire to be pure in Your sight and chaste in each others company and pray that you would keep us from temptation.
Unite us in love and peace and teach us Your ways. Guard us and guide us and just as You Lord poured out a special blessing on the young couple in Cana of Galilee, we pray that You would bless our union – bless our engagement – bless us Lord from this day forward and for evermore in Jesus Name“
“Amen” They both affirmed.
