It was our wedding night; we were in a five star hotel for our honeymoon. Amarachi and I had just laid together as husband and wife. I was a bit surprised that I didn’t meet her as a virgin because Mama and her mother had always bragged about her being a virgin. Throughout the years I courted her, I never for once thought of laying with her. Well, since I was not in the school of thought of “I must marry a virgin”, I just decided to let go and enjoy my marriage.
I gifted Amara an SUV when she graduated from the university. She graduated with a very good grade and I was proud of her. Shortly after her service year, I helped her secure a job as an Accountant with a very good multi-national organisation. She was doing so well in her place of work. It was when I felt I had established her enough that I decided to make her my wife.
“Obim, I want to quickly ease myself” She whispered in my ears freeing herself away from my grip as we laid in bed.
“Don’t delay darling, remember this is our night” I said as I freed my hands off her.
“Hmmmm…Obim we have each other till eternity biko” She smiled again reaching for her night robe.
“I know, but tonight is our first night together” I giggled sensationally
“Hahahahaha…don’t let me wee on myself biko” She said laughing away as she entered the restroom
As she entered the restroom, her phone began to ring; I looked through and saw it was an unknown number.
“Sweetie, someone is calling you with an unknown number….should I pick it” I yelled.
“Noooooo.....Let me have the phone, I will pick it myself” She said as she stormed out of the restroom to my surprise.
She grabbed the phone from me quickly. I watched in amazement; trying to figure out why she would act that way.
“Hello… who is this?” She asked as she picked the call feeling quiet uneasy and then she continued...
“Ugochi….like seriously…so you’re calling at this odd hour because of the things you left in my car….ahhh babe you nor try ooo….couldn’t you have waited till tomorrow…you are sorry bah…and you are even calling with an unknown number, ….oh you didn’t know your hid your number….check your settings…abeg good night biko…meet my younger brother Ifeanyi, he has my car key.” She hissed as she dropped the call. I was still watching her.
“Obim can you imagine, Its Ugochi ooo…calling to ask how she can get the things she kept in my car” She turned to me explaining
“Who is Ugochi, I don’t think I know her” I asked because I couldn't recall meeting any of her friends with such name
“Oh that’s true; you haven't met her Obim... she was my course mate in school…she just got me pissed...imagine her calling me at this hour”
“Common baby she didn’t mean any harm, no need to get angry…go and ease yourself so you can get back to bed...remember I said you shouldn't keep me waiting” I cooed winking at her
“Okay darling” She replied as she returned to the restroom

As we were eating at the hotel restaurant in the morning, the waiter attending to us mistakenly spilled wine on the dress Amara had on. She jumped up angrily.
“Are you blind, oh my god, my dress, are you crazy….”
“I’m sorry ma” The waiter tried to apologise
“Baby please just forgive him, bring your voice down please” I said
“No baby, he wasn’t careful…I have zero tolerance for incompetent employees” Raising her voice higher than it was
“I’m sure it wasn’t intentional baby” I said trying to sit her down
“Yes Ma, it was not intentional, I’m really sorry Ma” The waiter said almost stuttering feeling very sorry
“Just shhhhhhh… okay ….shut up your stinking mouth and start looking for a way to have my dress fixed…where is the manager?” She snapped pushing her seat away in order to exit the table.
“Amara people are beginning to stare, just calm down please” I begged trying to pull her back to our table feeling very uncomfortable with her reaction
“I don’t care…let them stare…someone has to pay for this mess” she wiggled her hand away from my grip pointing at the stain on her dress at the same time
“Manager….manager…?” She yelled on banging her fist on the table.
To say I was surprised was an understatement. I had never seen her react that way.
