Presenting the cheque to the leadership of the market union at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Gov. Obiano explained that the money was to assist the victims to start their businesses afresh.

He stated that his administration has relocated some of its fire-fighting trucks to Nnewi as part of the efforts to forestall a recurrence of such disaster.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the judicious utilisation of the N10 million provided for the timber market by his administration under the choose-your-project initiative.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Chief Paul Odenigbo, described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the governor’s humane disposition.

Responding, the Chairman of the market union, Chief Chukwunonso Nnetu, thanked the Governor for coming to their rescue and prayed God to repay him, just as he promised that his members would reciprocate the gesture with their votes on November 18.
