In a bid to pacify and rally support for the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) of the Official Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Nigeria, former President Goodluck Jonathan this afternoon paid an unscheduled visit to one of the candidates for the position of National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Prof Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman.
He thanked the candidate for his doggedness and passion for the party and pleaded with him to accept the outcome of the election as the wish of God.
Reiterating further, Ex-President Jonathan was full of praises for Prof Sulaiman who he admitted was apparently the most qualified person for the job.
In his words,
"Prof, you did well and members of our party know you are the best among the competitors. Put the events of last night behind you and move on," Jonathan asserted.
He further appealed to Prof Sulaiman to let go of whatever might have transpired and support the new Exco.
"We appeal that you all give the new exco some benefits of doubt and see how things work out. If we fail to support them, then we are not helping the party," the former President stressed.
He concluded by confirming that Prof Sulaiman is a man of great qualities that the party cannot afford to loose. Assuring him that better things are coming his way.
"Don't allow yourself to be stampeded... better things await you..we cannot afford us to lose you," Ex-President Jonathan concluded.
In his response, Prof Sulaiman thanked the former President whom he fondly referred to as his boss describing him as a "consummate leader, worthy of emulation". And he assured him that he will take to his wise advice.
"My boss, President Goodluck Jonathan, I sincerely thank you for the visit and your compassionate posture. Sir, indeed you are a consummate leader worthy of emulation. You have indeed inspired me more and I promised I would take to your advise," Prof Sulaiman said.
He further added that nobody or group of persons can intimidate them out of the party.
"The party is ours and nobody or group of people can intimidate us out of the party, Prof Sulaiman affirmed.
He concluded by thanking other members of the entourage for the confidence and trust in him.
In the former president's entourage are his former ministers: Barr Tanimu Turaki, Turner King and others.
