Group Warns FG To Stop Politicizing Dapchi Girls School Abduction.

A mini group known as the Legal Minds for Good Governance Initiative, LMGGI has warned the federal government to desist from politicizing the abduction of 110 female school students from a school in Dapchi, Yobe State

Here is a statement  by the group, signed by its convener, Festus Ogun;

“Our attention at Legal Minds for Good Governance Initiative (LMGGi) has been drawn to the blame game played by the Federal Government after the recent abduction of some schoolgirls at Dapchi, Yobe by the Boko Haram sect.

The Federal Government is toying with the schoolgirls’ abduction by way of passing blames on other persons, bodies and groups. The Federal Government must accept full responsibility of the abduction and rather than passing blames and playing politics with it, it should put realistic measures in place to ensure the quick release of the schoolgirls.

Politicization of national security issues like this is very precarious and the Federal Government should not indulge in unnecessary blame passing, to ensure a quick rescue of the schoolgirls.

We maintain our stand that playing politics with the lives of the innocent schoolgirls is lame, needless and should be desisted from. Blame passing led to the trouble of Chibok that we are still recuperating from. Such should not be repeated again by the Federal Government.

Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government. This “primary purpose” is not properly pursued by this administration. The President Buhari led administration should not continue toying with the security and welfare of the people by merely passing blames when pressing security issues like this occurs.

The attack is condemnable and most unfortunate as it has thrown the entire nation into total confusion. The attack indicates that the war against Book Haram is yet to be defeated and both the military and the Federal Government need to live up to the task of providing adequate security for the citizens.”
