Manchester City winger, Bernardo Silva is set miss Premier League match against Chelsea as he has been handed a one-match ban with £50,000 fine and compulsory education for his controversial 'racist' tweet aimed at his fellow teammate, Benjamin Mendy.
The ban comes a month after the Portuguese footballer was charged with misconduct by the FA after he tweeted images of Mendy as a child alongside the mascot for Spanish confectionery firm Conguitos, with the caption "Guess who?" on September 22.
After a heavy backlash on Twitter, the 25-year-old was forced to delete the post and then tweeted: "Can't even joke with a friend these days... You Guys...".
In a letter to FA, Silva expressed his regret over the Mendy tweet, while his teammate Mendy also wrote to the governing body saying no personal offence had been caused. But all of that couldn't stop the winger from getting a ban.
An FA statement on Wednesday, November 13, read: "Bernardo Silva has been suspended for one first-team competitive fixture, fined £50,000 and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3.
"The Manchester City midfielder's social media activity on 22 September 2019 breached FA Rule E3(1), as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and constituted an "Aggravated Breach", which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin."
Bernardo Silva is now set to miss the Premier League match against Chelsea on 23 November.
