Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Burn Farmlands In Osun

 Farmers are counting their losses in the Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State after suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded some farmlands and set fire to the crops.

 

SaharaReporters learnt that the herdsmen set fire to cassava farms, pineapple farms and yam farms running into acres of land over the weekend.

One of the farmers shared videos of his plantation which was razed by the herdsmen, saying the cost of his farm produce ran into millions of naira.

 

“This is so heavy on me. Fulani men burnt down my pineapple farm. I put my all into this project. I even staked my future on it. It was four acres of land with 13,000 pieces. All my sweat, millions of naira and hope are all gone,” he lamented.

 

Another farmer said, “They burnt my cassava plantation too. We cannot continue to live in fear of the herdsmen. The open grazing has to stop. We caught them last year when they burnt a plantation in a neighbouring town. This is depressing.”

 

“At this point, I think all the affected farmers down South should find their way to Aso Villa to meet the President and demand compensation for their losses. And if the President fails to yield to their demands, then the President is sectional,” a commentator stated on Twitter.

 

Only on Friday, Ekiti State also experienced Fulani herdsmen’s attacks after two farmers were killed in Isaba Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government Area of the state.

 

The Ekiti victims were killed by armed men after an encounter with herders on their farm on Friday evening.

 

It was reported that one of the victims was a man popularly called Jisoro in the town, while the other one served as a security guard at a construction company.
