Eventually: FG Incorporates Looted Funds in 2017 Budget

The federal government has incorporated some of the looted funds from former public officials into the 2017 Budget.
The Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Mr Ben Akabueze made the disclosure today, December 19.
There have been calls from different quarters urging the government to utilize the funds for the betterment of Nigerians.

Some federal government officials had in the past said the government was waiting for judicial interpretations as to whether it can spend the money before proceeding to do so.

Akabueze gave the total of the looted funds incorporated into the 2017 Budget as N259.6 billion.

He gave the breakdown as follows:

1. N97.6 billion ($320m from Swiss Govt)

2. N72 billion already received in cash

3. N90 billion in advanced stages of recovery, expected in 2017

The news will come as a relief to Nigerians who have been clamouring for government to make use of the funds.
