Southern Kaduna Killings: Buhari Orders Security Agents to End Violence In The Region

President Muham­madu Buhari has directed security agents to take decisive measures towards end­ing the cycle of violence that has consumed lives and property in the trou­bled southern parts of Kaduna State.
A presidency state­ment last night said it was the president who ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Ibra­him Idris, on an assess­ment tour of the affected areas and subsequent de­ployment of extra po­licemen to maintain the peace there.

The president also plans to set up two bat­talions of Nigerian Army to take over from there for long-term peace and security of the region.
While commending Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, on the ef­forts made to contain the violence so far, Buhari directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to as­sess the situation and provide relief aid to vic­tims.
The statement issued by Presidential Spokes­man, Garba Shehu, said that the president has over the past week given instructions for decisive measures aimed at bring­ing an end to the recur­ring acts of violence and destruction in the South­ern part of the state.
“On the directive of President Buhari, the Inspector-General of Police was in the region on Saturday and Sunday to assess the situation at first hand. In addition to the conventional po­licemen deployed in the area, a squadron of mo­bile policemen has now been stationed there.
“The Nigerian army is also in the process of set­ting up two battalions in Southern Kaduna while the military continues to carry out air surveillance across flash points of the area.
“President Buhari has equally directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to carry out a joint assessment of the situation with the sis­ter agency in Kaduna, SEMA, to determine the level of response re­quired for urgent aid to the victims of the vio­lence.
