28 Parties Demand Probe of Gov Obiano over Alleged Official Misconduct

Members of the 28 po­litical parties under the aegis of Inter-Party Advisory Council of Ni­geria (IPAC) in Anambra State have demanded the probe of Gov Willie Obiano over al­leged official misconduct.
After an emergency meet­ing in Awka on Thursday, the parties gave the state House of Assembly five days to direct an inquiry or investigation into the alleged unlawful activities of the governor.
IPAC reached a seven-point resolution contained in a communiqué read by its Publicity Secretary and state Chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Sir Peter Okala.

The group declared that Governor Obiano should be held responsible should any breach of peace and order be recorded because the polit­ical parties would take over the state House of Assembly.
He said: ‘’That in the un­likely event that the Anam­bra State House of Assembly fails and neglected within five days with effect from today (yesterday) to direct or cause to be directed, an inquiry or investigation into the unlaw­ful activities of the Gov Wil­lie Obiano-led Anambra State government as contained in the petitions under reference written by the PDP Chairman in Anambra State, Prince Ken Emeakayi, we the members of all the registered political par­ties in Anambra State, shall occupy the Anambra State House of Assembly until jus­tice is done.’’
Some of the Chairmen of the registered political parties ‘in Anambra who signed the document were Acting State Chairman of IPAC and ACD, Hon Kate Oby Okafor, Chief Ken Emeakayi of PDP and leader of IPAC in the state.
Others were Ken Okafor of PPA, Hon Moses Afum of AA, Hon Okey Okpala of the UDP, Hon Emeka Obiakor of BNPP, Chief G.C Mokwe and Mr Sam Oraegbunam, among others.
The party Chairmen said they adopted the petition by Emeakayi to the Assembly which was copied all the se­curity chiefs in the state on the grave violation of the provi­sions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) by Gov Obiano.
One of their resolutions reads: “That having seen and read through the petitions written by the Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State, Prince Ken Emeakayi, ad­dressed to the Independent National Electoral Commis­sion (INEC), the Police, the DSS, the Attorney-Gener­al and Minister for Justice of the Government of the Fed­eral Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General and Com­missioner for Justice of the Government of Anambra State and the Anambra State House of Assembly, on Feb­ruary 9, 2017, February 10, 2017, February 13, 2017, Feb­ruary 20, 2017, respectively, on the above underlined sub­ject matter, we hereby adopt the said petitions as the offi­cial position of IPAC, Anam­bra State, brought against the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.”
In a reaction last night, the state government expressed surprise that IPAC ishould join that call for the impeach­ment of the governor when it is on record that it is not a po­litical party.
It said the association’s adoption of a call from a self-proclaimed state PDP chairman calling for the impeachment of the governor negates the aim of INEC in setting it up as an advisory council on inter par­ty welfare.
