The federal government has released funds to seven states which have now started serving one hot meal a day to more than one million primary school pupils under the National Homegrown School Feeding Programme.
This was announced yesterday by the Media Office of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, in an update on the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme.
A total of N844, 360, 550 has so far been released for the commencement of the programme in Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun and Zamfara States as at the end of last week, the Presidency said.
In Anambra, Enugu, Osun, Ogun, and Oyo States, the feeding programme has actually started, while it is expected to start this week in the two other states of Ebonyi and Zamfara, bringing the total of pupils to be fed in the seven states to 1, 043, 205.
The Presidency statement further explained that a total number of 11,775 cooks have now been employed to prepare the meals in those states already, while local farmers in the states are also the one producing the food prepared and served.
