211 Hostages Rescued as Troops Neutralise Female Suicide Bombers

A pregnant suicide bomber and her col­league have been killed by security operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) while attempting to infiltrate Maidu­guri, Borno State on Saturday.
The two suicide bombers were neutralised when they refused to surrender and at­tempted to attack a securi­ty post in Ummarari Village along Mulai axis of Maidu­guri-Damboa Road, on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

The spokesman of Borno State Police Command, Vic­tor Isuku, confirmed the inci­dent in a statement on Sunday.
He said: “On Saturday at about 2045hrs, two female suspected suicide bombers of about 18 years of age, attempt­ed to enter Maiduguri through Umarari in Molai General Area which is about nine kil­ometres to the township.
“They were sighted by lo­cal vigilantes-the Civilian JTF, consequently shot down by one of the security personnel in the area.”
“The Police Explosive Ord­nance Disposal team was mo­bilised to the scene to render the unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED) safe, while normalcy have been re­stored to the area,” Isuku said.
Also on Sunday, the Na­tional Emergency Manage­ment Agency (NEMA) North East Zone spokesman, Ab­dulkadir Ibrahim, said that rescue workers have evacu­ated the bodies of the suicide bombers.
According to him, “when we got the alert on the in­cident, NEMA emergency workers, in collaboration with other stakeholders moved to the scene and evacuated the bodies.”
A civilian JTF who was in­jured in the attack “is respond­ing to treatment at a medical facility,” Ibrahim said.
In another development, 211 hostages have been res­cued from Boko Haram ter­rorists by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at Cingal Murye and Maji villages, also in Bor­no State.
In a statement on Sun­day, Army spokesman, Sani Usman, said that one terror­ist was killed while 11 bicycles were recovered from the flee­ing terrorists.
“In addition, the patrol team escorted two heavy duty trucks and 18 pick-up vans to recover Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) food stuff from Mala Maja,” he said.
