Still On The Illegal Detention Of Shaikh Zakzaky;600 Days Gone, We Damand For His Freedom
When we viewed good governance in an angle that has endless definitions, and we always need the details of each to know what good governance is, thinkers may argued that well-governed countries often sound a lot like functioning liberal democracies.
If "Democracy" depends on a framework of rules and these rules are themselves an
object of democratic decision making then why did the Nigerian authorities refused to comply with a High Court Order and release the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife from an illegal and unconstitutional detention in a democratic government?
All lovers of right protection know that the National Human Rights Commission was established by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Act, 1995, as amended by the NHRC Act, 2010, in line with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly which enjoins all member States to establish national human rights institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights.
Brothers and sisters of the Islamic Movement face several kinds of right violations from the Nigerian security operatives that were suppose to protect them.
Inspite of the wanton violations of human rights, high-handed crackdown by the Nigerian police even at the premises of the NHRC ,and enormous destructions of properties, movable and immovable, worth billions of Naira, yet , millions of brothers and sisters of the Movement refusesd to be tools for destruction and destabilisation of peace and unity that will favour the Imperialists.
The Islamic Movement has been and is still very much non-violent for almost four decades of its existence, but, even as the IMN chooses to tread the path of litigation, the government continues to thwart, frustrate and pervert the course of justice without recourse to the oath of office.
Today (04-08-2017) , it is known to the world that Shaikh Zakzaky, and his wife Zeenah Ibraheem, have been in detention without charge for 600 days following a brutal crackdown on his supporters by the Nigerian Army in which soldiers slaughtered hundreds of men,women and children in Zaria.
Shaikh Zakzaky and his wife Zeenah Ibraheem were attacked in their house by the Nigerian Army. Soldiers shot him several times together with his wife and killed his children in cold blood in his presence.
On the 6th of June, 2017 at about 8:30am on ITV news , Mr Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity of President Muhammadu Buhari claimed that Shaikh Zakzaky is "heal and hearty" , trying to justify the deliberate ignoring of the court ruling by the Government.
It could be recalled that the detainers(DSS) of Shaikh Zakzaky once claimed that he is being kept in "protective custody" and according to their lawyer it is the DSS’s duty to provide him protection.
They further even claimed to have spent five million Naira on his health alone.
Later on , the general public through the humble Shaikh's family get to know that such claims were false. With this strategic frequent lies on the health status of Shaikh Zakzaky, how can people have trust in DSS, Garba Shehu, and the government?
It is a known fact that the Ministry of Health estimated about $1 billion been spent on government official's traveling abroad for medical care in 2014 alone.
In April, President Muhammadu Buhari announced that his government would no longer pay for officials to travel abroad for medical services available at home.
Today,President Muhammadu Buhari is in London for medication, why?
This shows that there are no good medical facilities in the country and why denying Shaikh Zakzaky access to well equipped medical facilities in any place of his choice? Is this the "Democracy" people voted for?
We will not stop calling for the unconditional release of our leader Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, his wife and all others in detention for 600 days now. The continued detention is a gross violation of their fundamental human rights.
Perpetrators of #ZariaMassacre must be brought to book.
