Naija Breezy Stories: HEARTLESS - Episode 6 By Evelyn Ivy Ojo

Amarachi and I had just returned from our honeymoon and were settling into my three bedroom apartment. I was so happy to have Amara with me in the house; lonely days were finally over.

“Hmmmmm….home sweet home…no place like home my baby” I said as I unpacked our bags.

“That’s true Obim but are you thinking what I am thinking?” Amarachi said as she looked around

“What’s that dear?” I asked wondering

“That we will need to move to a bigger apartment now that you’re married” She answered with a glowing smile

“Bigger apartment? But this is a three bedroom apartment” I voiced out with a puzzled look

“That’s the problem Obim…how do we manage in such apartment…you should have your room, I should have my own room, our three unborn kids should have one each, the maid’s room and then like two visitors room just incase our families choose to visit at the same time…you never can tell you know” She explained

“Ammy please I don’t think I want us to live in separate rooms…we are husband and wife” I disagreed

“Don’t get me wrong Obim…I never said we will be living in separate rooms…I just need my own space where I can keep my own things…but don’t worry if you don’t like the idea I understand but please consider the other reasons”

“Better, we can move because of the other things you mentioned”

“Yayyyyyy…thanks Obim” Amara said as she jumped on me

“So we are looking at a seven bedroom duplex right?” I continued as I dropped her gently

“Exactly honey…but baby we would need to move to Roseland Estate where my friend Ego and her husband lives” Amara said as her toes touched the ground.

“Are you kidding me? …come on baby…you know houses are on the high side over there" I reminded her

“Obim I don’t know whether you want to carry this money to heaven…haba Obim you have the money now” Amara frowned

“Even if the money is there, don’t you think we should save…what about saving so we could build our own house” I tried to make her see reasons.

“Obim forget, God is in control, I strongly believe they will promote you at work very soon and you know promotion in your place of work comes with salary increment” She assured me

“Seriously Ammy, we need to tread carefully” I warned

“Hmmmm..Obim don’t you know that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the lord?...Obim as you have married me, God has taken you to another level…I am very sure of that….so keep your mind at rest”

*********************************
Although I wasn’t really comfortable with Amara’s ridiculous demands, I just couldn’t turn her down each time she asked. Just as she requested, we moved to a seven bedroom duplex at Roseland Estate. The apartment was luxurious and the rent was in millions. I prayed earnestly that my promotion will come quick so that I could meet up with the unending demands of my new wife. I couldn’t tell anyone about it because I didn’t want any third party in my home.

The most important thing in all this was, Amara was happy. I was never really concerned about her salary; to me her money belonged to her and I felt she could use it for whatever pleased her. Her parents were still on monthly salary from my own purse and I never complained. Barely a month after we moved into our new home, I came home to find Amara very moody one particular evening.

“Baby…what is it?...you look moody” I asked with so much concern

“Nothing Obim…I am okay”

“Come on baby you can’t lie to me…I know you are not…talk to me…I am your husband”

“Hmmmmm….okay Obim…if you insist”

“Yes baby, I insist”

“The thing is that…this my car is beginning to embarrass me” She said turning her face away from me.

“Embarrass you…I don’t understand” I asked very confused.

“Let me explain Obim…you remember this car broke down at the estate gate last week…you need to see the way people were looking at me like shit Obim”

“But baby it was battery issue and I have replaced it already”

“I know Obim but the car is old…you bought that car for me before you even married me ooo”

“Old? Baby no nah… Remember I bought that car as tear-rubber and it is less than three years old”

“Obim less than three years old is old ooo…See my friend Ego, her husband changes her car every year”

“Please don’t compare me with anybody and please let’s forget about this car issue, I don’t think I have the money for that now” I disagreed completely for the first time.
